Meta is officially getting rid of the Facebook Like button on third-party websites, marking the end of the digital age. This famous sign of social approval, which used to be everywhere on blogs and news articles, will no longer be used after February 10, 2026. These familiar buttons won’t cause problems or break websites on the date. Instead, they will disappear from view, becoming an invisible part of the page.

Meta has said that the change is a planned move to keep the platform up-to-date and running smoothly, moving the focus away from features that are “from an earlier era of web development.”

In 2013, when social plugins were considered very important for getting people to visit and interact with a site, the external Facebook Like button was first added. Its decline means the way the web is built and the way people find content are changing in significant ways. The company suggests that site owners remove the plugin code for a better experience, but this is not necessary.

This choice marks the end of a long chapter for the Like button on Facebook. Its journey from a controversial idea within the company to a worldwide phenomenon is now in its final stage, as it fades from the vast landscape of the wider web.
