The PlayStation 6 (PS6), Sony’s next-generation console, is already making waves in the gaming world thanks to a recent leak that hints at jaw-dropping performance upgrades and a surprisingly familiar price.

According to YouTuber Moore’s Law is Dead, who shared information from a leaked AMD presentation that was supposedly shown to Sony in 2023, the PS6 could have three times the rasterization (3D rendering) power of the base PS5.

That’s not just a step up; it’s a jump into a new age of console gaming. The PS6 is expected to be twice as powerful as the PS5 Pro, making it a great choice for games with realistic graphics and immersive gameplay.

The PS6 is said to cost $499, the same as the PS5, even though it has a lot more power. Sony may be trying to copy the success of the PS4 with this strategic pricing. The PS4 was popular in part because it was cheaper than other consoles.

PS6 is backwards compatible and uses less power

The leak also shows that Sony is putting more emphasis on lower power output and making sure that PS4 and PS5 games work with the new console. This approach means that gamers could enjoy their current library while also getting the benefits of next-gen improvements, all without having to worry about using too much power or losing access to their favorite games.

Sony is also working on a PS6 handheld device, in addition to the console. This portable system may feature:

  • A slot for microSD cards
  • Slot for an M.2 SSD
  • Touchscreen
  • Vibration that you can feel
  • Two microphones
  • USB-C port that can send video out

The handheld is likely to cost between $400 and $500 and may be better than competitors like the ROG Ally X. People say that Sony will start making the PS6 and its handheld version in the middle of 2027. The games could come out sometime between fall 2027 and early 2028.
