Instagram is working on a new feature called “Picks” that will help users find friends who share their interests. This feature, which is still just an internal prototype, lets users pick their favorite movies, books, TV shows, games, and music. These choices are called “Picks.” Instagram then compares these choices to those of your friends to see what you have in common.
Reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi was the first person to find the feature. He shared screenshots that showed how Picks works by highlighting friends who overlap. Instagram hasn’t said much about the feature yet, but it seems like it’s meant to help friends connect more personally and talk about things they have in common.
Adam Mosseri, the CEO of Instagram, said earlier this year that the company wants to focus on creativity and connection in 2025. Picks fits into this vision because it could make the app more social and interactive, which would encourage people to interact more deeply with the content they care about.

However, the new feature could make Instagram’s already complicated app interface even more so. This worry comes after users recently complained about an earlier addition called Instagram Map, which many users didn’t like.
Right now, there is no official date or decision on when or if Instagram will make Picks available to everyone. The feature is still being worked on and can’t be tested or used by anyone else yet.
