Netflix is going to make more movies and TV shows based on games. They just announced a new deal to turn the popular board game Catan into a series of movies and TV shows.
The streaming giant has signed a big deal to make the first-ever screen adaptations of the popular game. These will include both scripted and unscripted shows, as well as movies that are both live-action and animated.
The projects will show the made-up island of Catan to people all over the world. Catan is a place where resources are traded, alliances shift, and robbers roam.

Netflix turns a board game hit into a new world
Asmodee, the game’s publisher, and the family of its creator will work together to make the adaptation. Darren Kyman from Asmodee, Pete Fenlon from Catan Studio, and Guido and Benjamin Teuber, the sons of the late Klaus Teuber who created Catan in 1995, are all producers. Roy Lee from Vertigo Entertainment is also going to be a producer.
Jinny Howe, Head of Scripted Series, the United States and Canada for Netflix, said, “Anyone who has played Catan knows that the intense strategy at the core of the game has endless opportunities for some serious drama.” She went on to say that the goal of the partnership is to “bring this world to life for both hardcore ‘Settlers’ and new fans.”
The game was first called The Settlers of Catan, but it has since become a worldwide hit, selling over 45 million copies and being translated into more than 40 languages. Netflix and Asmodee have worked together before, making the French movie Family Pack and board games based on Netflix hits like Stranger Things and Squid Game. This deal continues that relationship.
Catan is now part of Netflix’s growing list of game-based shows, which also includes Arcane, Castlevania, the upcoming Assassin’s Creed series, and a Monopoly reality show.
