Intel showed off the new Panther Lake processor on October 9, 2025. This was a big step forward in its plan to turn things around. This chip is the first in the Intel Core Ultra family to be made using the company’s advanced 18A semiconductor process.
Since becoming CEO in March, Lip-Bu Tan has refocused the company on its engineering core. This announcement was a big deal for him. Intel’s Fab 52 plant in Chandler, Arizona, is now fully operational and making the processors. The company said that this is the most advanced chip-making process made in the United States, which strengthens the country’s position as a leader in technology.
Panther Lake is meant to be a strong and flexible platform for the next generation of AI PCs. It combines the great power efficiency of Lunar Lake with the strong computing power of Arrow Lake into one system-on-chip (SoC) that can grow. Intel says that Panther Lake will make CPUs and graphics run more than 50% faster than the last generation.

The balanced design for artificial intelligence is one of the most important things about Panther Lake. The platform should be able to handle up to 180 trillion operations per second (TOPS). The next-generation Neural Processing Unit (NPU) alone will add 50 TOPS to speed up AI tasks on the device itself.
The Intel 18A process node is the most important part of this advancement. RibbonFET and PowerVia are two big new ideas that this technology uses. Intel’s new transistor architecture, RibbonFET, gives you better control to reduce power leakage. PowerVia, on the other hand, is a backside power delivery system that improves power flow and makes chips work better and more efficiently. Intel says that 18A is up to 15% more efficient per watt than its previous generation node.

Intel also showed off its first 18A-based server processor, the Xeon 6+ (codenamed Clearwater Forest), in a separate event. This processor is meant for data centers and is expected to come out in the first half of 2026. The company says it is the most efficient server chip it has ever made.
Panther Lake is already in production, and the first products should start shipping to customers later this year. The products should be widely available starting in January 2026. This launch, which was made possible by historic investments from the U.S. government and companies like Nvidia, makes Panther Lake a key part of Intel’s plans to get back on top in the semiconductor industry.
