BYD has launched a new all-electric hypercar, with plans to bring it to Europe first. The Chinese company unveiled the production-ready Denza Z convertible under its premium Denza brand at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show. This car will compete with top European performance models.
This is a big change for BYD, a company known for making affordable electric cars. Now, it is entering the luxury performance market. The Denza Z offers more than just speed. BYD calls it the “world’s first intelligent electric supercar,” combining advanced technology with impressive performance.
BYD’s Denza Z: A smart, powerful convertible hypercar
The BYD Denza Z boasts a tri-motor electric powertrain that produces over 1,000 horsepower, enabling a 0-to-60 mph time of less than two seconds. This level of performance puts it in the same league as hypercars from Ferrari and Lamborghini, and even rivals the Rimac Nevera. The convertible is one of three body styles planned, alongside a hard-top coupe and a track-focused edition.

- Acceleration: 0-62 mph in under 2 seconds
- Powertrain: Tri-motor, all-electric
- Key Features: Intelligent suspension, ultra-fast charging, and autonomous driving capabilities.
The design of the Denza Z is led by renowned German designer Wolfgang Egger, who is now BYD’s Global Design Director. The four-seat convertible features a carbon fiber body to reduce weight, a retractable soft top, and a “Pure Emotion” design theme. According to reports, the car also features advanced driver-assistance systems and a unique “tank turning” feature that allows the vehicle to spin on the spot.
Beneath its bold design, the Denza Z features BYD’s DiSus-M intelligent body control system. This magnetorheological suspension, like the kind found in high-performance Chevrolets, adjusts damping thousands of times per second to keep the ride stable and comfortable. The car also uses BYD’s latest Blade Battery and Flash Charging 2.0 system, which the company says can recharge the vehicle in just five minutes.

While full specifications and pricing have yet to be released, BYD has confirmed that the Denza Z will launch first in Europe. The hypercar is scheduled to make its dynamic public debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the United Kingdom this July. It will likely be priced above BYD’s Denza Z9 GT, which starts at around €115,000 ($134,500). This aggressive European-first strategy signals BYD’s intent to challenge established automotive powerhouses on their home turf.
BYD’s launch of the Denza Z convertible hypercar highlights the company’s global expansion and ability to build powerful, advanced electric vehicles. With strong performance, advanced technology, and a planned European debut, BYD aims to compete with top luxury car brands.
