Meta is no longer going to treat VR meeting rooms as separate things. The company has said that the Horizon Workrooms app will not be available after February 16, 2026.

Users won’t be able to use the app or get to any of the data inside it after that date. But Meta is letting people and businesses download their data before the app goes away. Meta said that its bigger Horizon platform can now work with many other companies’ productivity apps.

The company said that this change means that a dedicated, first-party app for VR meeting rooms is no longer as necessary. Because of this, the special tool that was made for virtual meetings will no longer be used.

A wider look at the VR meeting rooms closing

These VR meeting rooms have closed down before, too. This decision aligns with the plans of Meta’s Reality Labs division to save money and alter its operations. This division is responsible for the company’s projects in virtual and augmented reality.

VR Meeting rooms

The company recently let go of more than 1,000 people in this division and shut down three of its VR content studios. After the company lost a lot of money, it is now restructuring. Since 2021, Meta’s Reality Labs division has lost over $70 billion. Because of this, Meta is moving some of its money to different places.

The business said that it is moving resources away from some metaverse projects and toward product lines like wearable tech, such as its AI-powered Ray-Ban smart glasses. In February, Meta will stop offering Horizon Managed Services and the VR meeting rooms app.

The purpose of this subscription service was to help businesses keep track of their Quest headsets. Meta is no longer in charge of VR meeting rooms and other related hardware for businesses because these services are no longer available.
