Google has officially launched Chrome Skills, a new feature that lets users save and reuse their favorite Gemini prompts with a single click. According to Engadget, Chrome Skills is designed to eliminate the need to manually retype or copy and paste the same AI commands across different webpages. The feature integrates directly with the Gemini sidebar in Chrome, allowing users to build one-click workflows for repetitive browsing tasks.
With Chrome Skills, any prompt you find useful can be saved directly from your Gemini chat history and then reused across any tabs you select. For example, instead of repeatedly typing “suggest vegan ingredient substitutions for this recipe” on every cooking site you visit, you can save that prompt as a Skill and trigger it instantly later. According to Google, early testers have already used Chrome Skills to calculate protein macros from recipes, generate side-by-side product comparisons across shopping tabs, and scan lengthy documents for key information.
What Chrome Skills offers users
Google has designed Chrome Skills to make AI-powered browsing more efficient and accessible. The feature is rolling out starting April 14, 2026, to desktop Chrome users who are signed into their Google account and have their browser language set to English-US. According to TechCrunch, Chrome Skills ties directly into Google’s existing Gemini AI integration in Chrome, which already allows users to ask questions, summarize content, and perform tasks on webpages.
- Save prompts as Skills: Open Gemini in Chrome, type a prompt you want to reuse, and save it directly from your chat history. You can name your Skill and assign an identifying emoji for easy recognition.
- One-click reuse: Type a forward slash ( / ) in the Gemini chat box or click the plus sign ( + ) button to access your saved Skills. Select the one you need, and it will run on the page you are viewing, along with any other tabs you select.
- Cross-device sync: Saved Skills are available on any Chrome desktop device where you are signed into the same Google account.
- Pre-built Skills library: Google is also launching a library of ready-to-use Skills for common tasks, spanning productivity, shopping, recipes, budgeting, and health. Users can add these preset Skills to their collection and edit them to fit their specific needs.
- Privacy safeguards: Like other Gemini actions in Chrome, Chrome Skills will ask for confirmation before taking sensitive actions, such as sending an email or adding an event to your calendar.

The Verge reports that Chrome Skills aims to spare Chrome users from having to manually retype frequently used Gemini prompts or copy and paste them from a saved list. According to Ars Technica, Skills do not so much add new functionality as they make it easier to repeat tasks that were already possible with Gemini in Chrome — saving those favorite prompts makes them quicker and easier to access.
Google says it has been working with early testers to see how people use Gemini when they can save and recall prompts instantly, with early adopters focusing on health and wellness, shopping comparisons, and document summarization.
In summary, Chrome Skills transforms how users interact with Gemini in Chrome, turning repetitive typing into one-click workflows that work across any webpage and any signed-in desktop device.
